Metro Station names: Fertility in wrong place
Mamata Banerjee, the union Railway Minister, has shown her exuberance and fertility in changing the names of the Stations of Metro Railway in Kolkata.
Perhaps an utmost desire to show resilience to all the existing systems and to gain some political mileage before the forthcoming elections have prompted her to do so, notwithstanding the realistic problems of millions of people.
It is indeed true that Mamata Banerjee and her party is in a much better position in the political scenario of West Bengal, which had never been before. They have bagged off major parliament seats from West Bengal and are certainly in an advantageous position in the coming elections.
But Mamata Banerjee should never forget that it is more of Anti Incumbency factor than the likings for her party, that have paved the way for her.
There are plenty of opportunities to show her enthusiasm, whereby the people of West Bengal can be immensely benefited. Why to waste such an invaluable resource in changing the names of Metro Rail Stations? Generally the nomenclature should follow the name of the place by which it remains popular. Tipu Sultan deserves respect undoubtedly, but the name Chandni remains more accurate as people know the place as Chandni. Likewsie, Uttamkumar is a respectable artist, but Tollygounge is the name, that denotes the place.
When perhaps even Mamata Banerjee calls the place as Maidan, why to name it as Gostho Pal? Couldn’t she find some better method of showing homage?
The people of West Bengal are aware of her political gimmicks. It is the same Mamata Banerjee, who demonstrated a suicide attempt in public to protest some nomination of her own party. It is the same Mamata Banerjee, who had made Bandh and Strike a regular affair in various places of West Bengal. It is the same Mamata Banerjee, for whom, Tata Motors had to withdraw the Nano factory from Singur.
Political observers find a sharp decline in the popularity factor of Trinamul Congress and Mamata Banerjee in the recent college elections.
The Trinamul ruled Panhayets and Jila Parishods could not show any better performances as yet. Rather, some of them have lost power because of internal clashes.
Mamata Banerjee! It is high time to realize that most of the people have turned to your party to gain power and turn court politicians can never formulate the foundation of a good party!
