Stephen House Fire raises questions
The disastrous fire at Stephen House in Park Street in the last week has raised innumerable questions about the system, coordination process, efficiency and various fundamental theories of the governmental bodies.
It may sound a bit harsh, but the fact remains, the massive fire also raises questions about the integrity of government officials.
Its really redundant whether Pratim Chatterjee became rude and dogmatic in the press conference or the chief minister, Buddhadhev Bhattacharya slams the Calcutta Corporation. It is the malfunctioning of the entire system that had remained as the culprit for the fire ignition and also for its massive spread.
It is the very ridiculous process of getting the illegal plan sanctioned by paying a marginal fees that had allowed to build two stories. It is the money that stopped the Corporation to demolish those two additional floors. It is the inefficiency of supervision of the controlling authorities that has enabled the building authorities to escape the legal eyes. It is the electrical department that has faced an utter failure in implementing the system in the building.
The cumulative effect of so many inefficient people and functions that had put the building on fire.
Now it is the time to look into the performance of Fire brigade. The required ladder is placed in such a distance that it can not be used on emergency. The fire engines had taken more than required time to travel from the shortest possible distance. Why to blame the poor employees who always risk their lives in any fire massacre?
It is the fertile brain of the minister and the management that failed to arrange the required machinery on time.
Mismanagement and faulty system take their toll on many living people, who could not do anything but welcoming the most unwanted death!
